GoldenComm recognizes the importance of creating ADA compliant websites to create an enjoyable user experience for everyone, no matter what the disability. The website design industry uses an accessibility checklist called Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) just for this purpose.
Ezzie is an inspirational individual who just so happened to be born blind, and GoldenComm was lucky enough to have her as a guest.
Growing up in Baldwin Park with her three sisters and parents, Ezzie did not let her disability get in the way of going to the National Holistic Institute to study massage therapy from their Advanced Neuromuscular Therapy Program. Her studies have led her to becoming a full-time massage therapist for Massage Envy where she enjoys relieving pain of others. She now lives with her husband of almost five years and Calypso, her trusted guide dog.
In this podcast, Jason and Ezzie illustrate what it is actually like for someone who cannot see to the surf the web. “Snappy easy!” is Ezzie’s initial reaction after navigating across the internet with her screen reader.
Ezzie gives a sneak peek into other tools she uses such as speeding up her screen reader, just like someone skimming through a menu, and turning on her screen curtain to protect private information.
Navigating the internet blind comes with its challenges, just as navigating the world blind has its own. Regardless, Ezzie has conquered both realms.
